Līhau- A gentle cool rain (considered lucky among fisherman)
Līhau Clothing Company is a passion project that I founded in August of 2020.  I realized that there wasn't much options in terms of casual/non-corny clothing based around Hawaiian culture so I decided to make some myself.
The goal of Līhau is to further normalize Hawaiian Language and share the stories and culture that I grew up around through the designs I create.

NAUPAKA QUILT SWEATER
Naupaka is a native flower found both in the Mountains and near the sea. It has a very distinctive shape in that it looks like half of a flower. A short version of the story surrounding this particular pua (flower) is that the halves of the flowers represent two lovers separated by the gods. One sent to the mountains and the other banished to the sea. The heartbreak of this story always resonated with me which is why I wanted to create a design honoring its legacy and beauty. In Hawaii we also have distinct quilt patterns usually representing a plant or flower of some sort and this is a Naupaka quilt design I created.

GUAVA JAM
Design made to reflect the kanikapila (jam sesh) culture in Hawaii. I have so many great memories "jamming" with friends and family and this shirt was made to reflect that. I also love guava jam lol
KANAKA O KE KAI
(Man Of The Sea)
The first shirt I ever released, Kanaka O Ke Kai, was meant to pay homage to one of Hawaii's famous waterman, Duke Kahanamoku.

MĀLAMA YOUR MAMA
Mālama, meaning to take care, is used as a way to say take care of Mother Earth or in this case your "mama"
ORIGINAL LOGO LONGSLEEVE
Featuring the original Līhau Logo on the street where the name sake came from
ALOHA KAKAHIAKA
(Good Morning)
Aloha Kakahiaka is another very common phrase within the Hawaiian language.  Here I utilized a sunrise illustration to incorporate the 'oleo (language).  Bottom video is a little animation I did to showcase the sweatshirt
SURFAH GIRL
Simple surfer girl illustration on a cropped sweatshirt

MO'O
(Lizard)
The mo'o is very prevalent in Hawaiian culture resembling more of a dragon like creature rather than the regular lizards we see today.  The design was based off the common gecko usually seen around the islands.

HEADWEAR
Mino'aka (smile) beanie and Kanaka O Ke Kai bucket hat
